NRA Sponsored 50 and 100 Yard Shelters
For years the Viola Sportsmans club has been working tirelessly to create a truly premium experience with regards to shooting sports, this dream has finally became a reality with the help of the Friends of the NRA Foundation. Two years ago the VSC made a great stride towards that dream with the completion of the 30 yard shelter that boasted a fully sheltered design, handicap accessible shooting stands, and variable distance targets, but this shelter was only the beginning for us at the Viola Sportsmans Club.
Since the first shelters creation, the Viola Sportsmans Club has been planning to build handicap accessible shelters for the other two ranges, but lacked the funding to do so. This is where the Friends of the NRA Foundation came in with the $12,000 grant towards this project. With this money we were able to move the earth to create a safer, more user-friendly range area, poured the concrete on which we stand, and built the roof in which we shelter. Huge thank you to the NRA and the Friends of the NRA Foundation from all the grateful members and future generations who will be sure to appreciate the new facilities we've created.

New 30 Yard Pistol and Rifle Range
30 Yard Range Improvements
The next time you visit the VSC, you will notice more work has been done around the new shelter on the 30 yard range. We needed to create a way to prevent water runoff from getting around the new shelter, so we made a temporary water barrier uphill from the shelter. It should direct the water away from the building now. We also spread some gravel around the shelter to provide a temporary additional parking lot and to raise the low spot in the area. Our hope is to have a handicap access ramp installed on the west side of the shelter in the next couple weeks. We have plans in place to make the parking area even larger in the spring if we get the funding we’ve applied for.
When you next visit the club, also pay notice to the recognition signs we have mounted on the inside of the building. The building was constructed mostly because of the contributions and support of several businesses and individuals. We want to that all of them again for their support with helping us to continue to improve our shooting ranges.
So stop out and get your .22’s sighted-in for squirrel season, or bring your kids out for some supervised practice on our new and improved ranges. Don’t forget we have small bore silhouette targets that can be used on the 100 yard range. These are lots of fun to shoot at for kids and adults alike. Just remember to only use .22 pistols or rifles, follow all the directions we have posted, and always return the targets properly when you are done.
